DAY 20 WEDNESDAY, 14TH OF NOVEMBER Lleida to El Campello on the med coast (Long drive 458Km today)
JovA Hotel - - El Campello

An early breakfast as we know that today’s drive will take 5-6 hours minimum. We sat in the domed breakfast room and wondered about the brass standoff conduit runs to supply the electric to the lights around the room a feature that we believe detracts from the convent walls and features. Checked out and all loaded ready to fight with Carmen to find our way out of Lleida through very heavy ground fog and haze.

First target is Tortosa and then down the coast towards Valencia. Landscape reminds us of Colorado and Arizona without the cactus. After 3.5 hrs on the N340 Paul opted to use the peaje (toll) to run a more consistent 120Km/Hr. as the truck and car traffic was clicking along at only 90Km/Hr. As a rule, we opt to use smaller roads just because there is no fun in a road trip if the only things you see are crazy assed trucks and even crazier car drivers!

Stopped on the autopista plaza to stretch the legs and had a surprisingly good bodega de jamon/ Nestea and back on the road at 4:00 PM we stopped short of our target in Alcoi for a bite to eat and stretch again. The sandwiches filled a void but were just ho hum at best in this dark café in the university part of town. Back on the road to finish the last half hour to the coast.

El Campello Promenade
Made it to the JovA hotel at 5:30 to checked in, stowed the car and called Gill who was most relieved to hear from us. I think she thought we were lost or something. Gentle rolling breakers onto the beach as we walk along the promenade to meet Gil, most places closed or shuttered for vacation as the foot traffic left with the summer heat. We met up with Gill @ 7:30 at the corner Cerveceria only a 5 minute walk from the hotel but which direction did she mean to say to walk from the front door??
We told war stories and mentioned happenings for years past, ultimately, we had various tapas and settled our hunger and so we said goodnight until tomorrow at 2:00PM and marched off to our hotel for the night. It has been a long day and we were lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves.
