DAY 22 FRIDAY, 16TH OF NOVEMBER El Campello travel day to Cartagena Spain

DAY 22 FRIDAY, 16TH OF NOVEMBER El Campello travel day to Cartagena Spain

Breakfast at the JovA Hotel before a quick pack up of the cases for our short drive today only 114Km. Very overcast but dry for the moment. Gill dropped by early today and left a box of chocolates for our journey. She was taking Harry to the hospital for tests on his hand tremors.
Carmen seems to alternate AP-7 and then the N332 coast road but after only an hour and a half we were in downtown Cartagena in need of a break, stretch and short walk about. We drove through very light coastal showers rolling in off the med as we heading south. Still mostly cloudy today.
By 1230 we were parked in downtown Cartagena trying to decipher the parking meter instructions into English after several tries our 60 cents generated a valid ticket for 45 minutes of parking. We popped into a nearby bar/cafeteria for refreshment and potty break before finding our way to the hotel.

We pulled up to the NH Cartagena at the port and Jane checked us in. The Manager told to park on level -3 as the other levels were already full. Now we have to take that big assed car into that tiny assed elevator! Paul had me circle the car, we pulled in the mirrors, we inched forward, pushed the button for the receptionist to open the doors and crammed that thing in there, successfully! Then we inched out into the cramped garage and again I got out and scouted for the longest space with the best chance of exiting on departure day without demolishing both the car and the garage! Hearts were beating forcefully when we finally stopped and unloaded the car, again successfully! Damn, we are a good team!

We have a superior Double with balcony room 503 and soon we were settled ready for a walk into the town pedestrian walkway and a spot of lunch. Last time we were here, our balcony faced the port, this time we are round the side looking at some pretty nasty roofs!
We sat at the restaurant next to carousel again and noticed that all the eating places are employing hawkers to try and funnel the tourists into their particular establishment. Jane had a ½ order of huevos rotos and Paul had a garlic roasted rabbit and chips (very heavy on the garlic was that bunny), then it was time for siesta and blogging! We will get caught up! Between washing out the underwear and blogging I am surprised we have any time to rest!

Evening time we decided to walk further up the business pedestrian boulevard and found parts of the city walls. Trouble was we choose not to return via our same steps and took what we thought was a parallel street in the hopes of taking a right turn to rejoin our original outbound steps……were we ever wrong, hopelessly lost, nursing sore feet and hips we found a bar to ask for directions and refreshment. Eventually when they (the locals) could not explain where we were on the tourist map, the bartender called for a taxi back to the NH hotel.  Paul swore it was the best 5 euros he had spent on this trip so far!!!! Jane’s feet echoed that sentiment too.!! As it turned out we were on the right track it was just a fair walk! As we had walked away from our intended direction.
And so to bed!
